Freedom of the City

Greggs have received the honorary title of Freedom of the City of Newcastle upon Tyne, in recognition for its contribution to the North East economy and charity work in local communities. We are delighted and very proud to receive this prestigious honour from the city where Greggs began over 70 years ago. The title was inferred at a ceremony hosted by the Lord Mayor of Newcastle, Cllr Mike Cookson, Chief Executive of Newcastle City Council, Barry Rowlands and received by Greggs Chief Executive, Kennedy McMeikan.

The Lord Mayor of Newcastle, Cllr Mike Cookson, said: "Greggs continues to be a fantastic asset for the whole region and their generosity has helped so many good causes here and around the country."
