Greggs directors get on their bikes

4th June 2010

A team of Greggs staff are cycling a mammoth 900 miles relay around the UK, visiting every Greggs bakery to raise money for BBC Children in Need and our Greggs Breakfast Clubs

The route, over 900 miles, will snake around the UK, visiting all Greggs bakeries along the way.
We start at our Treforest bakery at around 3pm on the Thursday 17th June, the first ‘leg' covering South Wales to Bristol. A celebrity sportsman is joining us for this leg!

Ten days later we cross the finish line at our Gosforth bakery in Newcastle, back to where Greggs began 70 years ago as John Gregg delivered yeast and homemade cakes from his bike!

The Chief Executive and Greggs Operating Board (our senior board of Directors!) will cycle the first and last legs of the journey, and will also cover various parts of the route along the way. Two members of staff, the Finance Director and Retail Operations Manager, will attempt to cycle the whole 900+ miles! Other staff volunteers are also joining in parts of the route. None of our cyclists are experts, in fact for the Operating Board, most of them have had to get on a bike for the first time in over 20 years! So this is really is a huge challenge!
